Recycled Plastic Small Marbled Board - Tortoiseshell Caramel
Serving board handmade from recycled plastic in Brighton & Hove, UK.
Segments of caramel, ivory, and dark grey are defined by striking white veins. The translucency of the plastic allows you to see deep into the material, while the white layers reveal how the plastic flowed when it was melted.

Made from 100% recycled waste LDPE plastic in our Brighton & Hove studio. Each piece is crafted by hand, and is totally unique in its marbling.
The boards have a mostly smooth satin surface, however, please be aware there may be some surface irregularities such as:

Dips, where an air pocket became trapped as the plastic was being pressed

Shallow ‘cracks’, where the different colours have met during the layering process

Shiny spots, from minute changes in temperature

‘Growth rings’ (slight change in surface texture, alternating between shiny and satin), which show each pull on the handle of the hydraulic press as the piece was being pressed into the mould
These are all part of the handmade process, and we think add character to each piece!
Please note that due to the nature of recycling used plastic, our products may contain fabric fibres, splinters and the occasional piece of glitter, despite every effort being made to remove them. These come from the garments/products which the plastic bags originally contained when they were single-use packaging.
Some boards may have flecks of colours different from those seen in the photographs. The boards in the gallery are ones we feel are a good representation of the batch, and please be aware they are unlikely to be the exact boards you receive.
The boards can be used to serve dry foods such as fruits, canapes and bread. We do not recommend using to serve hot or wet foods. Sharp implements will cause permanent surface scratches/scarring. Please see BOARD CARE for more information.
The Weez & Merl logo (WM) and the recycling symbol for LDPE (♻4) feature debossed on the reverse of the boards.

All of our products are dishwasher safe.
Please be aware that metal scourers, or using any metal cutting implements on our products will damage the surface. The density of polyethylene is similar to that of a hardwood such as Teak, so it will scratch and mark if care is not observed. Wooden and plastic utensils or cutting implements should not damage the surface but may still leave marks in certain lights, so we advise testing on an unseen area of the product before use.
As polyethylene is a flexible plastic, our products will not shatter if dropped or impacted. However, this may cause dents or scratches to the edges or surfaces. Some damage may be repairable, see TAKE-BACK & REPARATION SCHEMES for more information.
We do not recommend that our products are exposed to temperatures exceeding 100° Celsius (212F). Temperatures higher than 150-160° Celsius (302-320F) will melt the plastic and cause irreparable damage. This includes hot pans - our products should never be used as trivets.
