Too good to waste! Every now and then we make one-off boards from recycled plastic left over from projects, colour tests and samples. We’ve made up a new batch of these unique pieces in a variety of sizes and colourways. We have chosen to leave these boards with their natural pressed edge, giving them an organic and tactile quality.
Below are some suggestions for how you can use our natural edge boards:
- Side table-tops
- Dining or coffee table centrepieces
- Plant stands
- Serving trays
- Clock faces
- Cut in half for shelves
If you’d like us to cut and sand the edges we can do that too! Or cut in half or drill holes, as per the above suggestions. Just get in touch and we'll give you a quote. Please note we do not recommend using to directly serve food. Our boards have a mostly smooth satin surface, however, please be aware there may be some minor surface irregularities such as:
-
Shiny spots from minute changes in temperature
-
‘Growth rings’, from each pull of the hydraulic press, showing as concentric circles of different textures
-
Small dips from air pockets
These are all part of the handmade process, and add character to each piece.
Due to the nature of recycling used plastic, our products may contain fabric fibres, splinters and the occasional piece of glitter, despite every effort being made to remove them. These come from the garments/products which the plastic bags originally contained when they were single-use packaging.
The Weez & Merl logo and the LDPE recycling symbol (♻4) feature debossed on the reverse of our boards.
All of our products are dishwasher safe.
Please be aware that metal scourers, or using any metal cutting implements on our products will damage the surface. The density of polyethylene is similar to that of a hardwood such as Teak, so it will scratch and mark if care is not observed. Wooden and plastic utensils or cutting implements should not damage the surface but may still leave marks in certain lights, so we advise testing on an unseen area of the product before use.
As polyethylene is a flexible plastic, our products will not shatter if dropped or impacted. However, this may cause dents or scratches to the edges or surfaces. Some damage may be repairable, please contact us for more information.
We do not recommend that our products are exposed to temperatures exceeding 100° Celsius (212F). Temperatures higher than 150-160° Celsius (302-320F) will melt the plastic and cause irreparable damage. This includes hot pans - our products should never be used as trivets.
