Evening Plastic Recycling Workshop - Craft Marbled Homeware in Brighton

6pm start, approx 8pm finish depending on group size.

 

We'll start with a meet and greet, and a short introductory talk with videos and samples to show our basic processes.

 

After this, it’s time to choose the colours of recycled plastic that you’ll use to make your piece/s; we have prepared LDPE discs in a wide variety of colours, so there is plenty of choice! Once decided, we’ll pop these in our ovens.

 

Whilst your plastic is melting, we'll give a kneading and cutting demonstration for you to get a feel for working with the plastic.

 

When your plastic has melted, and we’ll begin exploring layering and marbling techniques, demonstrating two methods that you can follow.

 

When you’re happy with how the marbling looks within your plastic, we’ll press your coasters or board into its final flat shape. The plastic only take a few minutes to cool before it is ready to take out of the mould, so can be taken home on the day.

 

Please note:  if you would like to take home your piece/s on the day, the products will have the natural edge from pressing, as we do not have time to cut and sand the products straight after the workshop.

 

Alternatively, we can cut & sand for an additional fee of £15 for coasters or £10 for a board, payable on the day. Your pieces will be ready to collect within a week.

 

Tea, coffee and water is available throughout the evening.

We welcome you to bring your own waste LDPE plastic (symbol 4) to recycle, if you want to!

 

All materials and personal protective equipment will be provided, so just wear practical warm clothing and footwear (in the colder months) that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty, just in case.

 

We will run through the health and safety of each process before doing it to avoid accidents, and we will only let you do things that you are capable of doing. Anything you’re unable to do, we’ll do for you!

 

You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Our workshop is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.

 

If there’s anything related to your ability that you think might affect your day in the workshop, please just let us know in advance in case we can make arrangements to optimise your experience. 

 

Depending on your ability, we cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to participate in all activities, however anything you’re unable to do, we’ll assist with in order to complete your take-home piece. 

 

Children under 16 are welcome to come along for free to observe with their parent/carer - please just let us know who you’d like to bring with you in advance.
